It’s basically a renovated motel 6. Carpet smelled like pet urine and a bulb missing from light (not so much a huge deal). Offered to change rooms but we were exhausted from traveling and doubtful there would be any difference. Front desk lady seemed a little snooty and rude upon arrival. Very noisy inside room because the door does not properly close. Basically an open door. Bed was very comfortable. Overall do not book here if possible.

The bed was comfortable and room was clean and nicely decorated! Nice location and some great food places around it. Not to far from beach! Was quiet. Check in was easy. The only thing they need to do is explain to their guests about the key pads. They did on how to get into room but did not explain how to lock room when leaving. We had to go to office to ask why door wasn’t locking as were unfamiliar with a key pad. Not good to assume everyone knows about keypads. Would stay here again if in San Clemente. We were visiting family that lived right around the corner. So close to where we wanted to be.

Big disappointment. My son booked this hotel for his 21st birthday, it was the first time booking on his own. Place is across the street from a dirt lot and looks like a motel. Don’t believe the pictures. There is a freeway right next to it so you’ll barely get any sleep. Blood was in the shower and you have to wait ten minutes for hot water. No privacy for the bathroom oh and the bed was damp. When they arrived trash was outside the door and it was never taken either. Best part housekeeping came in the room and didn’t lock the door on the way out. Luckily my son’s stuff was still there. Scamming people for $178.00 is insane.

It's a beautiful, recently remodeled hotel with several covered parking spots. Rooms are updated also. But instead of a key or card you get a 6-digit code to enter your room, and it always took several tries. At night it was very difficult, because the number pad wasn't lit up.|The walls are thin, so I had to run the nice AC all night to block out the noise from the highway. The water took 5 minutes to get warm in the shower. And the TV is a Roku, so they had no local channels, and not the cable channel that had the NL Playoff game, so I missed it. The king size bed was very old and too soft.||It's a very nice looking hotel and with just a few changes I think it could move up from 3 to 4 stars.

I will absolutely be making a point to come back to Surfbreak in the future. Everything from checking in, finding a room assignment that worked for me and my partner, and even getting amazing restaurant recommendations was stupendous.

The staff is incredible, I absolutely adore the lot of them. They ensured that we had a good, quiet room with a lot of privacy - and in general the other patrons were awesome to talk to. The overall vibe of the people around this place was great. Nice and great temperament. Also, this place is less than 2 miles away from the beach! There is a park nearby for easy access as well.

Whenever I'm in San Clemente again, I will be prioritizing staying at Surfbreak. Very memorable place, quaint and rustic aesthetic, in a great location.
