I attended The Oars Senior Living's 4th Anniversary today, and was impressed by their facility's layout and care that they provided for their residents. They had live music and good finger food for the guests there for this event. If the directors were as friendly and welcoming to their guests, then imagine how they interact with their residents. If you're thinking of a place for your parents who's alone and need a little (to a lot of) care , this place is worth looking at.

My father spent his last two months of his life here. It was a heartwrenching decision to decide to place him, but the easiest part was deciding on the Oars over other places. Every time I visited, the staff was incredibly kind, patient, understanding, helpful, and loving of my Dad and all of us who visited. If they were eating, they offered us food. Toward the end, my dad struggled with his emotions and became easily frustrated when we would visit. Each time the staff came over and interjected in the most respectful and caring way to calm him down. They knew his patterns and personality and how best to make him happy. I could not more highly recommend a place if you have a loved one in need of this type of care.

Hi, my father Frank was diagnosed with Alzheimers while he still lived alone at his home. We constantly worried about him given his confusion and memory issues and in 2019 he was moved into a memory care community in Modesto, then shortly thereafter to an assisted living community in Santa Cruz. Dad was always a social butterfly and quick to make new friends and always keep in touch with existing family and friends. In March of 2020 when Covid hit, all residents were restricted to their rooms and had minimal social interaction. We progressively saw a decline in dad’s cognition.

In September of 2021 we decided the best place for dad was to be near me in the Sacramento area where I could continue to manage his needs in a community close to me. This turned out to be the best decision we made when we selected the Oars Senior Living as Dad’s new home. I vividly remember the day dad arrived at the Oars and how he was welcomed with open arms & smiles by all the staff. Given his recent decline, he was placed in the advanced memory care neighborhood on day 1. The staff kept me updated via phone on dad’s progress and within a couple of weeks dad settled down and was doing quite well. Near the end of his 2nd month he had improved so much that he was able to move into the assisted living neighborhood, Gabion, and he flourished. I always knew dad was in great hands at the Oars and I truly believe the great care and friendship the team gave to him, helped him live longer.

On January 1, 2023 dad was placed on hospice and we thought he did not have long to live, but shortly after returning to the Oars from the hospital, he bounced back and was playing the balloon game w/ the team & cruising around the Oars on his Harley/walker. It was so clear to me how much the Oars staff cared for dad, and how much of an “impact” they had on dad’s life and my family & friends. Dad lived a great life and peacefully passed on November 18, 2023 at the Oars and I am immensely grateful for the great care the Oars team gave to dad. Thank you Oars Team!
