Showed up near midnight after a drive in from LA. Very easy to find, a couple of tries at the keypad had us into the “compound” and then simple enough to get into the suite. |It was an early morning as you can hear the flights landing and taking off from the airport but that seems minimal given the laid back vibes of The Monkey Tree. ||The unit was clean and spacious and had everything we needed for a quick weekend away. ||Lost a star because we couldn’t access the common room that was advertised. But the pool and surround amenities were great, it was a quiet weekend so it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. ||Would definitely stay again, but next time we will stay longer!

It's a very cute and comfortable place. I liked it. Parking is free, close by, and no hidden fees. BUT unbeknownst to me when I booked it, there is not a property manager on-site. If you have something to discuss, a needed service, anything - an answering service will take your message and "someone" will get back to you. NOT! I called at 7:30am to see if I could get a late checkout that day? Two hrs later, no response. I called again. About ten minutes before the 11am checkout time, they called with approval from "their team". My bags were packed, I had canceled my plans because I could not confirm with management. I also called about a parking question - same problem. What if you get locked out of the gated community w/o your phone? (Its locked up between the parking and the rooms - like a compound). No one there to contact. The pool is heated and lovely, but the nice firepit reeks of propane all around it. And oddly enough, not a box of kleenex in the room. But for the money - it does have some character at least and close enough to the airport, and yet, far enough.

It was probably hidden in the details, but this is essentially an Airbnb operating as a hotel.

I unexpectedly had to return home quicker than I had planned and I had to cut my trip short. I was hoping I'd be able to apply it to a future stay credit or something other than just eat the $212 for the night. But when I sent an email to ask about options, I was just sent the blanket "Airbnb doesn't do refunds" policy.

I'd love to try to go back but I didn't like the way that was handled.

I’m editing this post, as even though no one contacted us, we have figured out how to make the best of this situation. You need to let the water run for a while to get it hot. There are no “kitchen” items, like in the description, however there is a common area with a microwave and toaster. The grill has a spatula. You need to buy cutlery and plates and cups. And a sharp knife to cut anything like cheese and bread. And buy any condiments. The coffee maker is a keurig pods. Buy you need to buy your cream. There is a refrigerator in unit. Thank god The toilet will flush if you fill the tank from opening up the tank cover and adding extra water to flush, by holding down the lever for a minute. You can cool the room while you are gone and then turn off the loud AC motor to be able to sleep. When you first enter the room it’s open. And so when you first put in the combination, you end up locking it. But that is how you lock the room when you leave so you have to put the combination in for a second time and then the door will open. The cornhole board banging did finely stop once they stopped playing cornhole. So we could finally get to sleep. This isn’t our cup of tea, But the common room could be great for a group of people all staying in separate rooms.

No one to contact, property management is non commutative, not returning my email or Avantstay contact. Very loud air conditioner, old dirty bathroom tub, poor toilet flushing. Very dissatisfied and no one to contact

Grossartiges Hotel im Stil der 60-er Jahre. Für rund 100 Dollar pro Nacht hatten wir ein grosszügiges, sehr schön eingerichtetes und sauberes Studio mit Sicht auf den Pool und die Gartenanlage. Neben der Poolanlge gibt es einen Pingpong-Tisch und einen Aufenthaltsraum mit einem Cheminee. Wir würden jederzeit wieder im Monkey Tree übernachten.

Facility was very clean and quiet. Our suite was very colorful and vibrant. It had two full baths as well on the Presidential Suite! I was impressed that the AC was already cooling the rooms since it was almost 100°F that day we went. ||Check-in and check-out was smooth, will definitely be back with family or a group since it they have a very generous space by the pool area.||This location btw was very close to the cabazon outlet, koffi, downtown, etc. And was only less than 1 hour away from Joshua Tree National Park.
