What a special place. We wish we could have stayed longer . Between the amazing decor (antiques, vintage lamps and other unique items), the inviting/relaxing courtyard area and the host’s (Greg) tips regarding the city, I cannot wait until we can get back to Redding and stay here again. Thank you for the recommendations for dinner and sharing your “secret” spot to get good inexpensive wines.

What a unique and delightful place! I loved my stay at this BNB on a recent trip to the area. As others agree, Greg is super friendly and hospitable, going out of his way as host to make sure I was comfortable, oriented and welcome. He has a wealth of knowledge about the local area and plenty of good recommendations for local eats and activities. The place is actually much more interesting and delightful than pictures can show. Greg has a real creative talent in the way he has carefully and tastefully built and curated the various design elements, antique furniture and the art glass and lighting in this home. It created a warm and rich ambiance that was a pleasure to linger in. The outdoor space and back patio was also very comfortable and inviting, with more cool lamps, greenery, sculpture. I love the wooden scull boats hanging as art indoors and out. Comfortable bed, great central location. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights. We took both rooms and had the house to ourselves. What an incredible experience! The host was fantastic! The house was really amazing! Decorated with nautical antiques which were incredibly interesting. The lighting was perfect. A really unique experience. You also got a decent view of the river and huge binoculars to look at the river's wildlife. Beds were comfortable and the blackout curtains truly black out the light. We had no problems sleeping in late. If we ever get back to Redding we will definitely stay here again. I highly recommend it!

This place is a visual treat and a step back in time. Everywhere you look has something interesting to see and wonder ‘what the heck is that?’ The owner is happy to show you around and give each item its due. 118 yr old small home only has 2 guest rooms but each has period correct furniture plus a modernized bathroom. Good WiFi but no TV. Comfortable seating facing the river is a great place to contemplate life in an earlier time…or chat with the owner over coffee. No breakfast served other than good coffee. The outside yard is also full of interest and has a lovely seating area under some shade trees that must have been 20 deg cooler than the outside world. I liked it so much that I stayed twice … each way on my trip from Oregon to Calif.

Redding outside, therapeutic retreat inside. Much of the furniture is of the 19th century, and throughout the house is art and antique objects to fascinate the imagination. Greg has been adding to the ambiance and improving the space continuously since 2005. There are multiple little nooks and sitting places, including a beautiful, shaded garden with a fire pit. The decor of the place is out of this world, made up of antique items and discarded historical objects from around the city. Wonderful

We will be next in line to rave about the Desmond House and Greg’s hospitality. Eclectic styling that’s warm and inviting with a surprise around every corner. Very clean living spaces and impeccable grounds, especially the back patio pergola and fire pit. Enjoyed our morning coffee and had a great time talking with Greg learning about the history of the Desmond house. Lots of options for privacy or interaction with other guests and our host so you can pick your level of engagement. The spiral staircase from the Sky room loft is epic! Can’t say “that was cool” enough. Hope to be back soon. Thanks Greg!

I agree with the other reviewers, I almost don't want to let the secret out. I stayed two nights over the Memorial Day holiday and my experience was perfect. Greg, the Innkeeper/ owner was fantastic; responsive and kind. The house is beautifully appointed with antiques and the room was spacious and bed & linens were comfortable. I loved the view of the river and railroad trestle. The home has two rooms and while the other room was occupied for one of the nights, I didn't hear a thing. The area is quiet in the evenings, the room was super quiet, and the home has off-street, well lit parking. Greg provided coffee in the morning (with a selection of creamer options) and the kitchen has a full size refrigerator for guest use as well as utensils and dishes for guests. I used the fridge for bottle water and take-out leftovers and had plenty of room. The outdoor area is lovely and oasis like. I loved it here and will definitely book again.

The Desmond House Bed and Breakfast is lovely, immaculately clean and one of the most interesting we've stayed at. We loved the attention to detail, the lighting was just marvelous and the decor, furniture, carpeting, WW2 memorabilia, and more...

The landscape was peaceful and luscious. The fire in the patio was inviting and was a nice respite from hours of travel, along with the shared wine from our host, Greg and his sidekick, the adorable Buddy.

Good continental breakfast and excellent coffee started our morning and Greg was just a wonderful and interesting host. This is more than just a place to stay. It's an experience you DON'T want to miss!
