I don't see where the million of dollar renovation took place. Rooms were average, but look beyond new paint and windows were dirty, vents were dusty, bugs in the windows that were dead. The restaurant was closest and they have nothing for breakfast. Dated bar was open but we had kids. Outside was falling apart, walkways were crumbling. Very beautiful views, close to the ski resort but I won't stay here or recommend it.

This review took about 2 weeks to decide how to write since my experience is mixed and overall negative.

I really enjoyed the location, the views, and the lake front property, though outside of that it’s kinda disappointing.

When I arrived on July 6th, 2024 I received my hotel room key, where I walked to the room to find an employee inside still cleaning the room at 3pm.

At 5:30pm when I was in my room, the previous renter entered the room with his old key card and confronted me on where his stuff was. This was very unacceptable and left an uneasy feeling that previous residents still had access to a room that was now checked out to someone else. The issue was brought to the front desk and owner Danny and all I received was a very bland “sorry”.

During my first day, I left my room to the main corridor and looked to my right to observe an appx 5 year old female child outside completely naked dancing away in her own world as the parents where oblivious to anything the child was doing.

The rooms did not have any air conditioning and this was not made aware to me or any other guest until check in. I was given a suggestion to just leave the door open to the outdoor hallway to allow a breeze. I ended up waking up every few hours to open the doors and let fresh air in as the room became upwards of 80 degrees in the summer nights with no windows or screen doors to have open without giant mosquitoes entering the room( and I mean giant).

The hotel restaurant food was bland with no seasoning and a bit expensive for what I received. The Mountain Dew and the Angry orchard were the best value for my dollar. Though I will say the servers were very friendly, respectful, and professional.

On July 8th 2024, I was locked out of my own room because the individual who checked me in put a check out of Monday instead of Tuesday. I again was left with a bland “sorry”. It only added to my frustration knowing that I was just locked out of my room during my stay but the previous renter was able to enter the room after his stay.

On the 8th also, I attempted to use the lodges hot tub after a 11 mile hike at Governors Trail only to find out the hot tub was freezing cold. When I brought it up to the front desk I was told “ohh someone will hopefully come by and fix it, sorry” in a very non caring way as if it was not there problem.

On the 7th, I went to the lodges only snack bar which had, fruit that was labeled as expired, a yogurt cup, and a jimmy dean breakfast sandwhich. I opted for the sandwhich, though I was unsure of the price. When I went to pay, I was told the sandwhich was $8. I was in shock but very hungry so I made the sacrifice and learned to buy a few extra snacks the next day.

My recommendation to the lodge is to create a more secure and consistent process to room check out and key card access so guest will have increased safety, consider new menu items(or add flavoring), be transparent on hotel amenities such as A/C and hot tub/pool access, have a variety of snacks or options for obtaining drinking water/fluids after 8pm, and try to at least sound sincere when you give an apology.

As much as I enjoyed the views and the location, the overall experience had lost me as a customer and I will spend the extra $300 to go to the competition and hopefully help other customers be well informed by this post.

- No Keys:
We only stayed overnight and we were only able to go out as a family once because one has to be able to open the door for the other. The only way you can go in was to use a master key which you have to get in the front desk
- No room service:
We have a baby, a toddler, and a bunch of stuffs and no one out of the 5 people in front of a single computer they have in the front desk was able to offer assistance
- No customer service:
We carried all of the stuffs mentioned above to the third floor and down to our room on the second floor due to inaccessible construction area. They didn’t explain it to us that we are not gonna get a key. The instruction was just we only have to follow a girl as she’ll open the door of our room for us. I have to go back to the same way we went through, up to the third floor and back to the ground to find that unfortunate news. Then, the other lady in the front desk told me that apparently we can go through the construction zone so we only need to go a single flight of stairs. Unbelievable! Carrying our own bags with kids was acceptable. But giving us a hard time going up and down multiple flights of stairs when you can make our lives easier, that’s just despicable!
- Power turned off and on multiple times:
Imagine the horror of my 4 year old daughter when all of a sudden it’s all dark. We can’t leave her side because it keeps happening at least 5x the entire stay.
- Smells like old library:
You’ll get very nostalgic if you’ve been to one before. Ughh.
- Squeaky floors:
That explains itself
- Broken vending machine:
It only requires cash and guess what? There’s no sign that it’s out of service. So when you put your money in there, it’s the same thing as putting cash in a donation or tip box.
- No access to patio:
One of the selling point in their website is the feature of the room which is the patio which was scenic. But when you checked in, it was nailed shut due to construction.

I wasn’t able to sleep due to frustration. I wrote this at 04:00am on my phone in the room hours before checking out. Our trip was ruined by staying in this lodge. The front desk lady said she’ll talk to her manager about possibly refunding a discount for the inconvenience as the tech guy that was supposed to give them the keys didn’t come at all. I haven’t heard anything back about that either. What a weekend.

Typical to operations at Sunrise, our experience here was horrible. This resort has so much potential if they could just get their operations act together.
First, it is absolutely ridiculous that they are marketing this hotel as "renovated". When you walk in, it feels like you are walking into the 1980's.
I showed up with my two son's to stay they night and ski the next day. The two ladies at reception said they had no record of my reservation and did I have a confirmation email. I had no email. But I was able to pull up the charge from the lodge on my credit card statement.
But I had no confirmation email. And they were fully booked for the night. They did find a reservation under my name for another date. Which I still had no confirmation email for. So then it's my word against theirs. But there's still no room in the Inn for myself and my kiddos.
I will continue to ski at Sunrise because even with the terrible customer service, terrible operations, and terrible logistics it is still better than Snowbowl. But I will never, ever, attempt to stay at this dump of a lodge again.

This little Best Western Hotel was such a nice surprise. The staff was so nice and welcoming. On check in, the host forgot to give us our member gift bag, with waters and snacks, and went the extra mile to bring it to us as we were unloading. The room was absolutely spotless and nicely furnished even though a bit small. I think it's an older hotel so we don't fault it for being a little small. We had requested a handicap room and it was perfect for that with everything we needed. We enjoyed the breakfast in the very welcoming breakfast room. It would have been nice to have the breakfast served a little longer - cutoff was at 9:00AM. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again.

The rooms are basic and the hotel is being redone, but the location is great, just 7 mins from the ski slopes. The staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful and the food by Chef Chris is quite wonderful

We went for a weekend ski trip. First of all, the hotel is an hour away from the nearest town and the hotel restaurant had 6 items. Rooms were very basic "Satelite" TV with about 7 channels it was a flat screen and had terrible quality. The beds were horrendous and I'm not picky about beds. The pool looked old but was at maximum operational. Had a little arcade for kids, and a fireplace, flatscreen TV, and comfy chairs in the lobby. There was a General Store fairly close and the ski hill about 10 minutes away but that was it. The roads were well kept around the hotel. Closest lodge to the ski hill, but in town would be a better stay, at least there is a choice of restaurants in town. If conditions are terrible and the power goes out like on our trip driving 4 hours both ways was not worth it. This hotel needs a remodel and some TLC. The only reason it gets two stars is at had some food and kept us warm throughout the night. The other upside is the staff answered all our questions and were very nice, unlike the other reviews. My advice is to stay in town the drive isn't far from Pinetop or show low. Thank you for considering my review and choose wisely.

The rooms are plain but perfectly fine as a place to sleep when skiing. Hope you have quiet neighbors, as the walls are thin. If you call to move your reservation, call again later to verify the changed dates - they failed to actually move my reservation a day forward, and had to put me in a standard room rather than the queen I'd reserved. The Summit Restaurant on the top floor was surprisingly good.
