Greetings, everyone who is reading this right now. As of August 21, 2024, I have successfully moved into this residence hall (Putnam/Putnasty) While my housing transfer is largely unsuccessful due to unknown circumstances, it still does not appear to interfere with my enthusiasm during move-in. So far, a -1 star has been awarded because it seems like they will not allow you to move in too early (you must move in during your allocated time slot). The rest of the residence hall was fine. Got placed with a roommate that was fortunately not hostile. Every floor is great. All I can tell you is that a full laundry costs $4.50, excluding detergent.

September: Another -0.2 star awarded due to the fact Unit 1 Putnam just got new chairs that do not adhere to my standards. Also, quiet hours seem to be unenforceable (after 11PM, the hall is as noisy as it was before). Would largely appreciate it if quiet hours were strictly enforced by Safety Ambassadors. Cannot sleep due to noise pollution. At least make the windows soundproof ffs.

Postscript: Whoever renamed this to Ryan Eun really needs to change it back.

I love unit 1! The best dorm on campus when considering location, cleanliness, amenities, and general vibes. The views from the windows are also unmatched!

The dorm rooms were clean on the move-in date, and check-in is very easy. There was way too much traffic though. However, I’m still giving it a five star rating because they played Mariah Carey songs during check-in. 👍

Having lived here for a full school year, I can attest to the true nature of Unit 1. You will receive a genuine college dorm experience from this place, complete with all kinds of people you'll meet on your floor, distributing screaming during finals week during midnight, and the occasional homeless person break-in to the dorms. We are the best Unit of the 3, and far below the lavishness of Blackwell, Clark Kerr, & Foothill. Yet we are perfectly in between all the dorms in terms of quality of life, so that you will get the most genuine freshman college experience from living here. I'll miss this place--mostly the people 🙂

The building management could do better in having its residents observe the city's parking rules, not blocking the street.

My freshman year stayed at Freeborn Hall of Unit 1. Freeborn is a substance free residential building, which suited my habits and preference --- though one of my floormates returned drunk a couple times, haha.
Living and dwelling space is basically divided by floor levels. Each floor is a single long hallway with rooms at both sides. While there would be a studying room common place and bathrooms/restrooms. The floor I was at was a coed one, all common facilities were shared among different genders, while rooms were separate. Rooms were mostly double and triple, with few single.
Only one frequently accessed common facility was shared by multiple floormates --- laundry rooms. My floor had no laundry room, so I needed to go one floor up or down when doing my laundry most of the time. Mails were collected at the front entrance hallway and distributed by PO boxes. Packages too large to fit would be withheld by the mailroom and be claimed by student ID and slip.
The nearest dining hall is a couple blocks away. A little inconvenient but it was the newest hall at my time studying there and had the best food --- relatively. Anyhow, I had a pretty nice experience there during my freshman year.
