Our overall experience of Ingleside was one of a lovely setting, fairly good amenities (decent pool and hot tub), bare-bones rooms, and service that was generally indifferent to unfriendly.

Our check-in process was far from welcoming. Our reservation through Chase was supposed to include an upgrade but the person at the front desk failed to mention it. (We finally asked, and she responded that nothing was available.) The first room we were given (far from being an upgrade) was next to a loud industrial facility fan that shook the entire room. We had to ask to get a different room, which also wasn't great (right next to the breakfast area). We were checking in quite early, so there should have been decent inventory.

The person who checked us in also failed to volunteer that guests have access to the neighboring property, including their gym, pools, and bar - it felt like we had to probe and ask for everything and nothing was really volunteered or explained. No map of area or activities were offered at all at check-in or at any other time.

The room itself was incredibly spare - shockingly so for one that costs over $600 per night. There was no charger next to one of the sides of the bed, the lampshades were old and crooked, the toilet paper holder was loose and hanging down. The room is small and the furniture is very dated.

The wifi was also unreliable - it kept dropping out.

Breakfast starts at 8:00, quite late, which has an impact on your day if you are trying to get to a hiking spot before the afternoon heat kicks in. On our first morning, after we sat and waited with no information or menus for at least 10 mins, a female server came out and greeted us by asking if we were sitting in the breakfast area bc we wanted to have breakfast. She then informed us that the espresso machine was “still” down but provided no immediate alternative to coffee options. When we asked she offered that we could order French press. When we dug deeper, we learned we could self-serve free coffee and tea in the lobby, which no one had told us about at check in. By then, the coffee was already running out even though it was just after 8 and breakfast had only just officially started. We had to tip over the whole urn to get anything out - which the person at the front desk witnessed silently, without offering to make more coffee.

On another morning people were still sitting around at 8:10 with no menus, no sign of what to do, or whether anyone would ever be coming, and we could hear new guests being confounded by the situation. Finally we had to get up and ask the front desk to contact someone to provide service to everyone. (Note that on other days, we had a really sweet male server who was very friendly, prompt, and efficient.)

The pool area and the pool itself are quite nice, but the pool chairs are uncomfortable, un-cushioned, and seem outdated. There is no service at the pool - but if you take the initiative to go to the front desk and ask, you may discover that you can walk to Melvyn’s (the onsite restaurant) to pick up cocktails at the bar and bring them back to the pool.

We didn't get to check out the pool at Avalon, which you can use as an Ingleside guest - it just felt weird to walk over there in our bathing suits and robes, but it seems like more energy and service is allocated there.

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Numerous Issues||Our stay at this hotel was an overwhelming disappointment from start to finish. We encountered a series of issues that made our experience far below the standard expected for a property charging $700–800 per night.||Check-In:|Despite the advertised 4 PM check-in time, we were rudely informed that our rooms were not ready upon arrival. Some members of our party didn’t receive their rooms until after 5 PM, and the front desk staff was unprofessional and dismissive throughout the entire process.||Dining at Melvyn’s:|Our dinner reservation was marred by a lack of transparency and unprofessionalism. Upon arrival, we were handed a pre-fixed menu with limited options, contrary to the full menu advertised online. The manager informed us that parties of 8 or more were required to order from this restricted menu unless we met a $105 minimum spend per person—a policy we were not made aware of when booking. Adding insult to injury, they frequently called us before the reservation to upsell private rooms and other unnecessary extras but failed to mention this critical requirement. To make matters worse, two members of our party were served undercooked fish, which posed serious health risks. When we brought this to the staff’s attention, the plates were simply taken away without an apology or any effort to rectify the situation.||Breakfast Service:|The next morning, breakfast service was appallingly slow. We waited over an hour for a server to take our order. When she finally arrived, she rudely told us, “Well, are you going to order or not?” in an incredibly condescending tone after we mentioned the delay. At that point, we decided to leave and eat elsewhere.||Poolside Service:|Poolside service was virtually nonexistent. We waited over two hours for someone to take our food and drink orders, only to resort to ordering outside food. Many other guests around the pool expressed similar frustrations, and even after notifying management, the problem persisted. While we understand staffing challenges during the holidays, the lack of basic service is unacceptable for a property of this price point.||Room Cleanliness:|Housekeeping was subpar. Trash was left in the room, fresh towels were not provided, and the room was not properly tidied. I had to call and request that it be cleaned again, which should not have been necessary.||Final Straw:|Upon checkout, I shared our concerns with staff, only to be offered a mere $120 discount on a $2,400 bill—a token gesture that failed to address the magnitude of our dissatisfaction.||In the end, we left early and booked our final night at the Thompson Hotel, which provided a vastly superior experience. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had.||Save your money and look elsewhere for a property that values its guests and provides the service you deserve.

Ingleside Estate is the best - the perfect example of understated elegance. Nothing can compare to the feel of a one-hundred year old inn which has been upgraded with top quality amenities while maintaining the feel of an inn from a bygone era. Friendly staff throughout effortlessly attend to all your needs. Please don't change a thing!

Hotel is centrally located but hidden behind well manicured lawns and hedges this hotel is a paradise of its own. Quite and absolutely stunning in every way. Cody made the check in easy and our room was available despite showing up nearly 2 hours early. Room was a standard room size nothing special but felt comfortable as bed was well dressed in linens and Aesop products in bathroom. Beyond the room the resort grounds are spotless and Melvyn’s Restaurant which was right next to our room was special as live music was played and the atmosphere was excellent for a Friday night. Enjoyed the bikes the hotel has available for guest and visited the sister property “Avalon” for lunch by the pool. Service was beyond amazing and food was great. Thanks, I will be coming back!

My husband and I stayed in Sept, our 2nd stay here are we thoroughly enjoyed it. Again. Rooms lovely, staff very friendly and accommodating. We love the old hollywood feel and the grounds are beautiful. Love how it's tucked back in a little corner. Feels isolated from everything else. Looking forward to our next visit.

My boyfriend and I loved this hotel! Beautiful large room, loved the restaurant and received 5 star service at check in and at checkout. We checked in late and the front desk agent was so kind as well as informative. We will be back. We will telling our friends about this hidden gem!
