I stayed here from April 1st-Nov 1st while in between apartments. I had a large room facing Sutter st. & paid $400 a week then after a few weeks I paid $350/wk. They were weary of guests at first and of me staying and getting residency after 28 days because of issues They’ve had with people in the past but in time I grew to feel like home there. It does have a TL feel as far as outside and sometimes inside noise due to location.

I find it very funny all the posts that I see that see how cheap this place is. I don't know how many people think that $100 every day is cheap, especially when you don't even have your own bathroom. Most other hotels like this and the city are around $60 a night. Much easier for a single woman as myself too come up with. That was really my only complaint was that being a single woman on my own $100 every day was hard to do sometimes. Especially if you got behind it all cuz if you get behind you cannot catch up. When I was paying my rent on time and came up with $100 every day the manager and I got along just fine. But then once I got behind I ended up having to leave and was back out on the street for a while only coming to check back in a couple nights out of the week when I could come up with the money for the room but every time I did this the manager was more and more hostile to me and I'm not sure why. I would come in at 12:00 midnight sometimes even one or two in the morning and pay $100 and have to check out at 11:00 a.m.? Not sure what he had to complain about.

First let me explain by far this is not a super fancy hotel nevertheless I have been fighting to survive in San Francisco for two years now. And the manager and owners of Hotel Sutter Larkin have done everything in their power to assist me with temporary housing every single time that I have found myself not knowing where I will go and stay. I keep to myself and I have no friends or family here. I am in tears thinking about what they are doing and have done for me. No it's not perfect and yes bring your cleaning supplies and fresh linen. The bathrooms are in the hallway and there are often people who do gross things and the management really tries to keep it together. I have never seen any rats or roaches. Nevertheless I am a very clean person so maybe that is why. I can't say enough about how much they help me. You must be a self starter, just respect management and keep open communication. Management sees everything and is very protective of the safety here. Keep a open mind and try hard to make it and they will have your back.

I'm not from SF, so I had no idea there were places like this. If you aren't from here you need to know ... There aren't private bathrooms you have to go down the hall. People are nasty so, so are the bathrooms. I've seen one mouse and lots of cockroaches. That said if you know the kind of place you're getting... In sf it's pretty good. It's safe, the manager is one of the best people I've met since I moved here. He is kind and willing to help you out(if you're respectful and kind in return)
I like it. I bring my own cleaning supplies and clean up before I use anything.
If I could the manager would get 5 stars.

I must say, for a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotel in San Francisco, this is definitely one of the much better, cleaner, and nicer ones that I know of. Rooms are well maintained. You won't have a Private Bathroom of your own (However they keep the bathrooms clean at all times). It's managed by a Indian family that are very nice and pleasant. I would recommend this place for a person that is watching their budget, and perfect location if your looking to go bar hopping on historic Polk Street. The property location is very centrally located in pretty much the exact center of SF and easy to find, only 2 blocks over from Van Ness Avenue (US 101).

I will stay here again for sure. It may not be the Hilton, but definitely In the top of the list for SRO's in the city.

It's a pretty good hotel of its kind for San Francisco. For the most part, kept clean and not nearly as "ghetto" as most of the hotels/sros in this city. Rooms are spacious (may vary) and is run by a decent family. Once you get to know each other and pay rent on time, there can be some leniency with check out time, better rooms. Etc. Overall with my experience, I give it a 6 out of 10 because it can go either way depending on YOUR ATTITUDE, RESPECT, AND courtesy because this is a very nice family just get to know them. If you treat them and give them respect they will do the same for you as it should be other than that the hotel bathrooms are clean there's no ghetto thugs walking around the hotel roaming or selling drugs very nice hotel I definitely recommend it.

I'm staying here at the moment, but I was a resident here back in 2000-2003, and it has improved greatly, there's carpet on the floors, and I think it got a good paint job lately, it's an old building, one of the oldest in San Francisco,|| I don't think any rooms come en suite,so the toilets and bathroom with a toilet, are in the hall, sometimes both can be occupied at the same time, but there are three other units along the hallways|| Ok I seen my first roach the other day, no-one likes to see them, and if there is one around, there's bound to be more; lets face it. they get everywhere, places you wouldn't think of, where there's any sort of heat, in your Phone .Answering Machine,Computer, under the Fridge(no fridge here), I know because when I lived here before they were pretty rampant, and as much as I tried to keep my room clean and clear of them, they were throughout the building|| While I lived here construction work was going on, they were installing the fire sprinklers, and Earthquake proofing the Building, they were also doing work on the Stores below|| My brother in-law was also living here, (separated from my sister) didn't have the same mental state for cleanliness as I did, (not that I'm a clean freak, quite the opposite in-tact, I can be quite untidy but there's a difference) his room was right over the stores below on the street|| Every cockroach in the neighborhood, must have come stay with him, I hadn't been to his room in weeks as I generally cooked, and invited him around|| This day I called well I have never seen so many roaches in the one place, there must have been thousands, they were all over the place, young ones been carried around by their mother ( I guess) they were on the bed, floor, computer desk, among books, every where, thousands, || He tried to bomb them, but only managed to destroy about a third if them|| When he left they had to bomb the room and seal it for over a week|| I took about ten bags of garbage from the room, mostly newspapers that he just let gather up ( he may never have read any of them)|| The neighborhood isn't all that bad, it's borderline, the rooms, well ok if your looking for perfection this is not the place for you, there's no maid or room service, no fridge or microwave|| If your on a budget, well this could be the right place,$275.00 a week|| The restaurant next door used to do a great British Breakfast at a reasonable price, but it was taken over, done up, and the breakfast went out the window. CRYING SHAME|| There are places plenty around, ,Domino's two blocks down, there where two fish and chip shops, but one is gone, Sliders is a good place for a burger, there's a steak house of Polk does a decent steak, || There's two place that I normally go for breakfast, one is just two blocks straight down on Geary, The other is on Polk a block over, and about three up to the right, there's a lane way across the road that will take you to Polk|| It's on Polk where you begin to see the poverty, the homeless, However if you are walking keep going, that's taking a right on Polk. About five blocks or so you'll come across a place called the Bell Tower, nice place for food and a beer|| There are some reasonable bars around, many have had a serious make over since I have been here last, On California street within walking distance, maybe as many as six, some have pool tables, a good Pizza place half way up the block, that actually does a great burger (after 7pm),|| The Hyde Out is a nice friendly spot, || If you like pool the 1 o 1 on Van Ness, is the place to go, as it has a number of tables, one block further up from Polk, if you smoke the cheapest pack is in the store beside the hotel ( I've only discovered that after nearly a month, Prices vary greatly,as with drink, and expect to spend close to $8.00 on a breakfast) || The Cable car runs on California street, The buses alternate streets, one up one down, and across on some,|| A good walk if down town is to walk up California st,another is along the Bay, Beach to Beach, get a Geary,or Sacramento bus out to the avenues, and get the 29 on the cross street, sometimes it doesn't,go as far as the beach ( it has a nudist area), and the last one from there I think is 6-6.30 it.s only a short walk to or from the regular stop though,|| There's plenty to do and see in San Francisco (I haven't seen it all and I lived here for four years)|| Again this Hotel ain't all that bad
