This is my fourth amazing stay with Kodiak Treks. I cannot get enough! The wildlife on land, sea life in the Ocean, and gorgeous landscapes are beyond expectation. The float plane ride to the lodge is thrilling and the skiff ride to Aleut Island base camp is full of ocean life sightings. Brigid and Harry are superb guides with extensive knowledge of every aspect of this outdoor adventure. My favorite moments are when I am in close proximity to a HUGE Kodiak Bear engaging in daily activity and tolerating my presence. It is a total priviledge to be accepted briefly in their habitat and given the opportunity to observe such beautiful animals.

Alaska beauty at its very best. Harry & Brigid are SO knowledgeable!! Our amazing experience included outstanding views from the water and hiking. Up close to nature and wildlife the whole time. Bears in their habitat, with cubs feasting on salmon, grass or salmon berries. We made a coffee table book with our photos. Our friends and family marvel at how close we got to bears. A once in a lifetime trip.

My first visit with Kodiak Treks I witnessed a 900 pound Kodiak bear emerge from a grassy knoll, jump into a nearby stream, and fish for salmon. That was only the beginning. We had multiple wildlife sightings due to Harry and Brigid. It was so fantastic I returned again to visit. I love Glamping with Harry and Brigid as they are the BEST ! The second trip was beyond my expectations with an overload of sea life encounters. I hope to return for a third time and recommend Kodiak Treks enthusiastically!!

This was the most amazing and unique experience. First you go to Harry and Bridget's island where they have cabins and the scenery is absolutely breath taking. From there you will camp a few nights up the bay and hike during the day and watch for wildlife. We saw lots of bears including bears mating, fishing, Sow with cubs and we didnt see any other people outside our group during the entire trip due to how remote/exclusive the place is. Harry and Bridget make you feel comfortable and take care of every need. I cannot recommend this trip more highly.

Our trip to Aleut Island with Kodiak Treks was probably the most memorable trip of our lives. The area's astounding beauty, the incredible bear viewing, the superb fishing and Harry's effortless hospitality all made for the perfect adventure. Though Brigid was traveling and we didn't get to meet her until the day we left, we have no doubt her presence would only enhance the experience. The accommodations are so nice that you almost forget you're in a vast wilderness. Harry and Brigid seem to have thought of everything that eco-tourists might want or need. Harry pretty much spoiled us to the point that when we returned home, we almost expected coffee and pancakes to be waiting for us when we woke up. I cannot recommend a trip with Kodiak Treks highly enough!

I have been to Kodiak Treks five times over the last ten years, which may make me the world's greatest expert on Kodiak Treks. Maybe yes, maybe not, but Brigid and Harry are undoubtedly the world experts on Uyak Bay. And what a place it is! There is the wildlife you see on each trip: sea otters and puffins, the two greatest humorists of nature, bald eagles, seals, all kinds of other sea birds. Those are everywhere. Then, there are animals you encounter but not on every trip. You often (not always) see whales but not necessarily orcas. For instance, on a couple of trips we saw tons of whales in the bay, very close to the boat for a few hours. We had two amazing encounters with foxes on the beach, including a fox fishing for salmon in the bay at a low tide. Kingfisher diving was another non-bear treat.

And then there are bears. Bears fishing in the bay, so that when they come to shore, you hear the fish skin ripped. Bears courting and mating fifty yards away from you. Sows fishing for salmon for the cubs in a creek next to you. The most amazing experience of all was, probably, a sow breastfeeding three cubs about 20 yards away from us. All this bear action very often happens as close as safety allows, which is close. Brigid and Harry know the bears extremely well, and are always very careful not to put you too close to them as to change their or your behavior.

Of course, there are down times - there may be 2-3 hours straight
during the day when nothing happens, esepcially midday. But you are still in one of the most beautiful places imaginable, and the already high rate, at which Brigid is feeding you her homemade cookies, doubles during these quiet breaks.

All this happens with nobody else around you - most likely, the only other people you would see in a week with Brigid and Harry are fishermen on a couple of fishing boats up in the bay. Chances of meeting other people while bear watching are close to zero. It is just you and the wildlife.

As for the practicalities, the cabins on their small island are simple but very comfortable with excellent beds and, of course, plenty of fresh air to help you sleep. The cooking is absolutely excellent. Harry grows all vegetables you eat, not to mention his raspberries.

To sum it up, usually when you arrive to Brigid and Harry by the float plane, you meet a departing group who you are replacing. Their excitement and happiness at their experience never ceases to impress me. So it's not just us.

A trip with Kodiak Treks is more a life experience than a holiday. It is truly an adventure, in a pristine wilderness surrounded by mountains and the unforgettable encounters with Kodiak Bears, the earth’s biggest land carnivore. No tourists, no cruise ships just an unforgettable experience. Glenn and Jan Smith, AUSTRALIA.
