Two couples stayed at the spyglass inn for two nights. We had the basement rooms which were quite comfortable. We loved the gas pot belly stove in our room, it was so convenient and even came with a thermostat! Our host, Pat was so friendly and such a good cook! She even made bag breakfasts for the guys on the day they left early to fish. We visited around the breakfast table for quite some time, just having fun and chatting with the fellow guests and Pat. One morning her assistant Michelle was there to make breakfast. We enjoyed her and her two kids as well. Would definitely go back, such a comfortable place to stay!

Patrick and I stayed for a week in the Captain's Quarters at the lovely Spyglass Inn. The room is very spacious and lacks for nothing including tea/coffee making facilities, a microwave and small fridge. The enormous king size bed was very comfortable and the outside deck overlooked the lovely garden with views to the water and distant mountains. It's located in the middle of town but in a quiet street so it was very peaceful and a perfect location. Pat is a very gracious host, cooks the most amazing breakfasts and can tell you all about Homer, where to go and what to see and do. We had lengthy chats over breakfast with Pat and her partner Bob who have a terrific sense of humour, so lots of laughs too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend a stay at the Spyglass Inn if you want a cosy, comfortable home away from home.

Patricia is a wonderful hostess. She is also a great cook. We stayed with her four nights and had four fabulous breakfasts. We loved sharing them with other travelers from Italy, the US and AK. The room downstairs was very comfortable. and quiet. We had the room with the bath across the hall but that was no problem. We loved sitting in the yard - one evening we were visited by a mama moose and her twins who decided to lay down and take a nap. So cool. Patricia is safety conscious she had warned us about the moose and suggested we not use the back entrance when she was around.

There aren't many lodging options in or around Homer, and most seem to be fairly plain. The Spyglass is very well located for all activites and offers some partial views of the islands and glaciers. The rooms and baths are very comfortable and well-appointed; however, the Fireweed room ($145/night) is really too small for a couple unless they have virtually no luggage. The proprietor, Pat, installed a gas stove rather than baseboard to heat the Fireweed. The stove takes up so much space that there is only one nightstand beside the bed, one too-big chair and no shelving, dresser or desk. This might not bother you if you don't mind putting your personal belongings on the floor or window sill or use only an ebook reader. But the more annoying problem is that the Fireweed is below the kitchen and dining room, and Pat begins to prepare breakfast at 6:45. If you sleep later than that, this room isn't for you. As for "visiting your aunt," how much you might like Spyglass depends on what you expect from a B&B. There are outside deck sitting areas but no inside living room or other space solely for guests. Pat's dining room doubles as her office, and her living room is strewn with her personal mail, papers and collectibles. Pat sat down to eat her breakfast with us, which we do not expect at a B&B. We expect the proprietor to eat earlier or later and maybe circulate (pour coffee, pass plates, etc.) and chat with us while we sit. We would rather converse with the other guests. The breakfast itself is just OK - a decent variety but no special egg dishes, pancake dishes or the like. Pat offered simply scrambled eggs the first day and oatmeal the second day, along with breads, jams and granola. Only macadamia milk and plain yogurt are offered for the cereal.

Normally, when I attend the Katchemak Bay Writers' Conference, I stay with a friend. But, she was off on an adventure, had leased our her house, so I chose to stay at the highly recommended Spyglass Inn. My stay was for several nights.||Situated centrally in Homer, Spyglass Inn is in a quiet neighborhood of single family homes. The B&B is spacious and beautifully appointed. The owner, Pat, makes quilts and each room has a unique, beautiful quilt that sets the theme. I stayed in the fireweed room that looked over her lovely property, where a set of twin moose calves were born earlier in the year.||Pat is also a great cook and had a homebaked good each morning to accompany her specialty homemade to-die-for granola. Also on the table was locally sourced goat yogurt, goat chevre, hard goat cheese, bagettes from two sisters bakery, homemade marion berry chipolte jam, blueberry chipolte jam, and peach preserves, plus...she will fix you any kind of eggs you want to go with your bacon. ||Pat also has the best inside track for everything from finding a really good piza to local fishing, bear-viewing, and sightseeing guides. Visitors benefit from her years in Homer. I loved it. I kept forgetting and called it "home" more than once. Pat made me feel welcome and well cared for during my visit to Homer.

We spent two nights at the Spyglass Inn, which is a charming storybook style house in the foothills overlooking Homer. We had the large room with its own entrance, which was especially nice given our irregular comings and goings in the continual rain.|| The room was large, charming, comfortable and immaculate. Same with new-looking bathroom (tub and shower). Had our own deck overlooking the backyard and wooded hillside.|| Pat, the owner, is a friendly, knowledgeable host. And a font of accurate, insightful information about what to see and do in Homer.|| She’s also an experienced and inventive cook, which was on full display at breakfast and at other times. After our second night, we had a very early departure for the drive through to Denali. Pat not only made my wife and me wonderful breakfast sandwiches and trimmings, which were waiting for us on the nearby kitchen counter but made a third bag for our friend who had stayed elsewhere because Spyglass was full.|| An added bonus for visitors earlier in the season: a moose cow has seemingly adopted Pat’s backyard as a safe place to rear her calves. We were too late to see it, but the family regularly grazed and slept under the clothesline and around Pat’s greenhouse.|| The Spyglass is not right on the famous Homer Spit, but that’s far from a bad thing. || We had a great time.

We had a wonderful 2-day stay with Pat at the Spyglass Inn. Breakfasts were delicious, with homemade granola, goat cheeses and yogurt, as well as more familiar cow's milk yogurt and cheese, scrambled eggs and sausage or bacon and fried potatoes. Homemade bread with an assortment of amazing jams and jellies and baked goodies such as blueberry clafouti and banana bread finished breakfast on a sweet note.
The B & B was convenient to downtown restaurants and museums and had a pretty view of the bay from the deck, which all guests are welcome to use.
Pat was knowledgeable about the area and helped us create a Plan B when our day of sea kayaking was cancelled due to wind. We loved Pat's hospitality, including sending us off with a bag- breakfast for our early morning bus departure.

My new life dream is to have Pat cook for me every day. The food-smells when you walk in is tantalizing. And Pat and Arden are so sweet and hospitable!!
I have a lot of allergies as well as chemical sensitivities, yet I didn't have any problems there. The place is clean, yet does not have "chemical" smells. They don't own cats or dogs, and I noticed that her laundry soap doesn't have synthetic fragrances! The only smell in that cozy house is amazing fresh hot FOOD!!
Also, if you're into fabric crafts, this is the place to go. The quilts on the beds are all made by Pat and reflect "Alaska" themes. If you want to feel "at home" like you never have before, stay here.
Oh, and Pat has lots of great "inside information" on local events and services!
