DO NOT BOOK!!! Absolutely no star!!! It is not as pictured on Booking.com. My big mistake was not to read all the reviews. But the biggest fault lies with Corey, the host of this place for not posting the true state of the place and not following through on his promises. I had three nights booked for five of us before and after our kayak trip in Glacier Bay. The rates were low for Juneau, so I expected a hostel like place. The pictures on Booking.com made it look homey and decent. When we arrived, Corey our host was not there, but we were in contact through texting. The place was filthy, kitchen a disaster, bathroom a mess, stains in the carpet... and a musty smell. After being there for 15 minutes, two of my friends were experiencing allergic reactions. I called Corey, and although he was not happy, he agreed to refund us, but I had to do it through Booking.com. Now I fully accept that I wouldn’t get refunded for that night, I was expecting a refund for the next two nights 9 days away that Booking.com told me I still could cancel free of charge. Unfortunately the site would not refund me and I was fully charged. Frantic calls to Corey, he assured me he would refund me. Since then I have tried to call many times... his voicemail is always full... once he picked up and said he would refund me that day. I asked for a call back to confirm it was done. Never done. His voicemail remains full, and he has not called, and he does not respond to messenger messages... It is now November. We have been seriously shafted. I have no idea how to move on.

I really enjoyed my stay this past weekend. The Guesthouse can be a bit intimidating when you first arrive but it is very comfortable inside. It definitely caters more to backpackers and people who don't mind sharing a space with other guests. The living area was a bit cluttered by my room was very clean and nice, and the bed was great. ||||The location was fantastic, you are within walking distance of Mendenhall Glacier and the owner even let me borrow a bike which made the trip more convenient. There is a nice bike path which can also take you towards several restaurants if you head in the opposite direction (about 20 min ride).||||Corey (the owner) is a really genuine guy with a lot of great stories and a very funny personality. I really enjoyed hanging out with him and the other guests and he showed me some of the must-see attractions in in the area.||||I had a really unique experience staying and would definitely recommend this place to someone who is looking for something a bit more off the beaten path

1. Not as advertised. no privacy. shared bathroom (i.e. one bathroom for about 8 adults). bedroom door did not lock. no room in our room for our bags. TV was not even plugged in and we could not get it to work. ||2. The "caretaker" is creepy. Women, trust me. You do not want to be there alone.||3. Why didn't the owner mention that Bears frequent the property? ||4. The code on the front door was changed and we weren't notified in advance. ||5. BTW, the entrance is next to a "salmon creek" which is a big draw for bears. The property is not well lit. Some visitors will be in for a Big Surprise! (Also, garbage is not secure; it's a bear buffet.)||6. This does not qualify as a "hotel" or even a hostel. ||7. All I'll say about the bedding is that I slept in my clothes. ||8. The bath towels have seen better days. But then again, we left without showering because of #2 and #9..||9. The caretaker also burned something which nearly sent us to Urgent Care. I asked him what he burned and he said he didn't know what I was talking about. However, he had opened the doors and smoke was billowing out. He did not burn toast; this was something extremely toxic, like oven cleaner or plastic. We threw our bags out the door and ran. I do not exaggerate. I felt like we were in a horror movie, it was that scary.

This place, particular the owner, is a total mess. I had booked for a three night stay. I arrived to find that they had overbooked. The owner, Cory, offered the couch in the living room to stay on for the night, with nothing resembling a reasonable apology or appropriate resolution. He only offered to return my money for the evening, which, in my opinion, was obvious, but lacked any gesture to show they were sorry for their mistake. Ultimately, however, I had to dispute the charge as Cory never made the adjustment (even after several promises on the phone that he was getting right to it). As for the place... it is very rundown. There is trash and abandoned vehicles surrounding the house. The room (Goldrush) clearly had been smoked in. All of the room doors have large gaps, and the walls are paper thin, so any type of privacy or peace and quiet is impossible. It is close to the Mendenhall Glacier, but is far from anything else. This place is the cheapest place I found at the time, but is not worth $50 by any means, that is if they even have the room they promise you.

Me and my girl stayed over a month. At first it seemed perfect for what we needed. But as time went on we realized it was only a trap house. Non-stop traffic and partying. The regular tenants were totally disrespectful. The caretaker Andrew was the only reason we stayed. The owner Corey, who is in Maui, keept asking my girl to do certain things for him like mail his 1,000 $ camera to him and pay for it out of her pocket. The heat was out for two days straight. Corey is so ridiculous, he posted an ad on Facebook for just anyone to come fix the heat. Then shortly after that Corey accuse us of stealing the ps4 that stays in the living room. Who does that!!! I'll tell you who... a person who is only money hungry, not a person who is trying to help anyone. I understand trying to run a business but, this place is trash. ANY person who has taste and respect for themselves would pass on staying at such a dump. You treat people with respect and dignity. This guy Corey is a joke.

Sincerely,
Chris from Texas

Where do I start? The pictures posted at their website all looks great. Wrong !! The place was Filthy. Dirty dishes all over, trash overflowing, clutter everywhere. The couches looked like they were picked up off the street. The bedroom / bath was also terrible. Bed unmade , shower dirty/leaking. Needless to say we didn’t stay !

You get what you pay for. Most of the time it's clean and fairly peaceful. Occasionally there are dishes in the sink and garbage needing taken out.
