Golden Chain Motel - Grass Valley, California

Nothing worked no TV no AC no shower, and the bathroom sink had no drain pipes it was just a big gulp cup. They didn't have a key to the room , it was dirty couldn't take a shower charge my phone or watch TV for $138 for the night.
"I camp outdoors in the mountains gold mining the point of this night was to refresh and recharge" that was not accomplished. Everything else was booked I would have been better off outside we had to keep the windows open it was cooler outdoors after 108° day.

This was our go-to spot for many years during Nevada county fair. Location is very beautiful if you enjoy outdoors. Their patio next to the pool is awesome spot to hang out.

Rooms are a lil outdated & we did have one year with bed bugs(problem was fixed right away) but staff is awesome & every morning feels great waking up and having a cup of coffee with the manager/owner👍

It was okay. We had low expectations to begin with so we really weren’t let down. The pool was nice and clean and the room was clean. The stench of cigarettes was horrible. We had to go in a little hallway to get to our room and that stunk of cigarettes. There was a dirty ash tray on the stairs that really shouldn’t have been there. And the lobby... that was our first impression of the motel and it just reeked of cigarettes. The employees were very nice and helpful.

The manager is a very kind and helpful person. He Geniuen cares about people. They have a cool pool, and overall, it's a good experience. Pet friendly

Nice clean and comfortable rooms. What really made my stay great was the awesome service, the office staff were freindly ...yes and they go above and beyond what is normally expected service in a motel. I really felt it was my home away from home. Sure its not the Hilton, but i really had a nice stay, if i needed anything i didnt have to wait or ask twice they would take care of you right away.
I have to add that the housekeeping staff was awesome.

Peggy was awesome, very welcoming and friendly. It is an old Motel and by the price you should know what you are getting. The heater put out a lot of heat, the water was hot and the beds were comfortable. Direct T.V worked fine. Only drawback was the room smelled musty and of cigarettes. We needed to buy air freshers.

This place has really gone down hill over the last year. The pool has been "temporarily" closed all summer. From what the hotel people tell me, I doubt it will open up at all. The room we had smelled like vomit, there was dirty washcloths in the bathroom, and the shower light didn't work. I asked the ladies up front to move me to a different room because of the shower light issue and they told me that none of the rooms have shower lights - I later found out that this was a lie. The people that stay at the motel are scummy. We had the pleasure of meeting a lady a few doors down who had just gotten evicted from her apartment for selling drugs. She was now living in the motel with her teenage daughter. She said that the hotel management let her live there for free because she was down on her luck. That's all fine and well, but I wasn't too thrilled about paying $75 for a room when it seemed as though the lowlifes of Grass Valley were living there for free. The staff is nice but extremely unprofessional. I overhead the cleaning lady joking about what a horrible job she does. I can confirm her lack of cleaning skills due to the filthiness of the room. We had stayed at the Golden Chain numerous times over the past year, but we will definitely not be returning. The prices went up, the quality went down, and the staff constantly uses the excuse of not having enough money from corporate to do anything about. Maybe if they charged for the rooms instead of letting crackheads live there for free, they'd be alright.

Stayed at Golden Chain Motel as a last minute decision. The good thing is they are inexpensive, because they should be. At one time this was probably a good family resort, but it has seen better days and is now pretty seedy. My room was clean but the bathroom sink was plugged,the refrigerator froze everything, the lighting dim and you could feel the bed springs . It is dog friendly and the manager was nice, but it is unlikely I would stay there again, or recomend it to others.
